Thor: The Dark World continues Disney’s box-office success before it even opens in America.

There should be smiles all-round at the House of Mouse, with the news that Thor: The Dark World has taken $109m (£67.8m) in the international box-offices, prior to the sequel’s release this Friday in the States.

This second solo-outing for the god of thunder stars Chris Hemsworth alongside Natalie Portman, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins.

This impressive haul of ticket stubs means that Disney has taken $2.3billion (£1.4b) in foreign takings alone, with 2 months of the year remaining.

Whilst impressive, Iron Man 3 is still the record holder taking nearly double in foreign territories to Thor 2. In the UK IM3 grossed $21.5m (£13.3) in its opening weekend, whilst Thor 2 took $13.4 (£8.6m), with the third Iron Man movie took a total of $195m ($121.3) over the films opening weekend.

In sum, this has been a very healthy year for Disney/Marvel. The question now arises as to whether this successful streak will hold through 2014, but with the much-anticipated The Avengers: Age Of Ultron due out next year the House Of Mouse is likely to remain very happy.
